Analog Modeling Limiter

This algorithm stops peak signals from exceeding 0dBFS by using a combination of fast limiting and soft clipping.  This limiter has a “thicker” more dynamic sound but will allow some clipping to occur if driven too hard.

Not available for NPCA or ARM platforms.

Look-Ahead Limiter

This limiter introduces a 64 sample delay to detect peak signals “earlier” thus allowing the fast limiter to effectively lower gain exactly to the CEILING level.  This limiter is very precise and will prevent digital clipping 100% of the time.

  • THRESHOLD
    • Sets the level at which the limiter will begin to attenuate the signal.
    • Also boosts the input signal by the absolute value.
  • CEILING
    • Sets the maximum output level.
  • RELEASE
    • Sets the release time.
    • 300ms is a good starting point for most applications.
      • Fast release times may increase noise when limiting low frequency content.

Calibration

Both compressors will automatically add make-up gain when the threshold is lowered.  So if the threshold is lowered to -3dB, +3dB makeup gain is applied to the signal.  Use CEILING or OUTPUT DRIVE to calibrate the final output level.
